Mission Launch UAV Project
A discontinued collaborative school project that explored autonomous-aircraft design, physical prototyping, and CFD while revealing the effects of excessive scope and weak coordination.
Collaborative experiment
Mission Launch was a high-school team project attempting to develop an autonomous unmanned aircraft. Owen contributed multiple aircraft design iterations and experimented with computational fluid dynamics. One design was constructed and briefly flown, but it failed during testing.
Project-management lessons
The team encountered significant problems with scope, coordination, and project management, and the effort was eventually discontinued. It is presented as a learning experience in collaborative engineering and realistic scoping, not as a successful autonomous UAV.
Development, step by step.
Design exploration
Produced multiple aircraft iterations and experimented with computational fluid dynamics.
Build and brief flight
Constructed one design; it flew briefly before failing during testing.
Project discontinued
Closed the effort after scope, coordination, and management difficulties.
